Ginger is called Maha Aushadam which means ‘great medicine’ or ‘universal medicine’ in Ayurveda. Ginger is a wonderful herb and a very important ingredient in most cuisines around the world. It is commonly used and abundant. It belongs to the Zingiber Aceae family and the useful part is the rhizome.

Ginger increases the appetite and digests Ama or digestive toxins. It plays a major role in diseases of the digestive tract. It is hot in potency and acts as an expectorant. It’s widely used in upper respiratory infections, sore throat, runny nose, sinusitis, and asthmatic conditions.

Because it is hot in potency, ginger relieves the body of toxins and kindles the appetite. It is known to improve metabolism or the Dhatu formation cycle. This makes it useful in hypothyroidism, weight loss, PCOS, and more. Ginger is also considered an aphrodisiac in Ayurveda due to its Madhura Vipaka or sweet taste. Both fresh ginger and dry ginger possess enormous health benefits.
